A merchant town
Al Zubarah was a prosperous pearling and trading town in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its remains are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The fort
The restored fort stands near the shore and houses a small museum. From its walls you can look across the site and the sea.
Getting there
It is around 100 km north-west of Doha, a drive of roughly 75–90 minutes. A day tour combines it with mangroves and Purple Island.
