4x4 dune bashing on a desert safari in Qatar

Pickup and the drive

Your driver collects you from your hotel in an air-conditioned 4x4. The drive south from Doha takes roughly an hour, and the landscape changes from city to sand sheets to dunes.

Tyre pressure and dunes

At the edge of the desert the driver lowers tyre pressure for grip on soft sand. Then the dune drive begins — a mix of climbs, descents and gentle sideways slides.

  • Dune bashing in a 4x4
  • Sandboarding on a large dune
  • Photo stops over the dunes

Camels and camp

Most safaris include a camel ride or a camel photo stop, followed by time at a desert camp with refreshments. Some tours continue to the Inland Sea.

The Inland Sea

Called Khor Al Adaid, it is a rare spot where sea water reaches deep into the desert. Crossing the final dunes to see it is often the highlight of the day.

Return

You are back at your hotel with sand in your shoes and photographs to share. Allow a rest afterwards.
